I appreciate Microsoft's certification policy. Like Salesforce, they do not require candidates to retake an exam to renew their certifications. Instead, passing an online assessment is sufficient to maintain validity. Even better, Microsoft's Fundamental certifications do not expire. Microsoft takes it one step further by offering region-specific pricing. Unlike Salesforce and AWS, where certification costs are listed in USD, Microsoft's exam fees are displayed in INR and adjusted to India's pricing capacity, making them more affordable. Additionally, Microsoft provides a dedicated learning platform to help candidates prepare for exams, similar to Salesforce's Trailhead. I have successfully completed and passed 5 fundamental certification exams, including achieving a perfect score of 1000/1000 in the Azure Data Fundamentals exam. Dear edX, I was in my 2nd year of college when you came to life. And I was ecstatic! No, not to be in college (LOL) but to have finally found my calling. Computer programming. I was browsing through all the resources I could find. Codecademy courses mainly. And right at that moment, you arrived. Your parents hail from the Harvard University and from the MIT. So of course you received my attention. Also, you had an unique selling point: free certificates. This was huge! No one else was doing it. Should You Trust Microsoft's Newly Found Love? I am an avid GNU/Linux user. So the thought of using a Microsoft product (if any available) is of course a no no. At least that's what I would have said before Satya Nadella became the CEO. Microsoft is a changed company under Nadella. One can only imagine the effort it must have taken to convert such a technology giant. Microsoft has been releasing products that support GNU/Linux. Best of all, many of them are available under Free Software licenses. In 2016 GitHub  reported that Microsoft was the top contributor on GitHub. It's been a month since I joined Edifixio India as a Software Developer Trainee. It's been a great experience so far. I've been busy learning things I always wanted to learn. The last Friday as I was studying AngularJS, an idea struck me. It's something I wanted to do for years; study and understand how an Operating System works. For the last couple of months my friend Aniket has been training to become an embedded C programmer. As I was discussing embedded C with him, I saw an opportunity to learn. So I have decided that I would dig deep into the Linux kernel during the weekends. Let's see how things turn out. Maybe someday I'll become a kernel developer✌

The Internet is a great resource to learn anything. But sometimes it's hard to find the information you're looking for. So I have been thinking about writing a blog post, listing down the resources I used to learn the programming languages and about the IT field. So here it goes! Codecademy - Has tutorials on different programming languages and is beginner-friendly. Khan Academy - Has very good modules on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and more with a unique editing environment to get down and dirty. Code School - Has lots of courses covering languages used in different domains. Didn't seem that beginner-friendly to me. Udacity - Has videos covering different domains just like Code School. The videos are really polished. When I started learning Java, I learnt that it was required for the file containing the main class to be given the same name as that of the class itself. This not entirely true. One can name the file anything they want, as long as the public access modifier is not applied to it. The program will compile and run. I came to know about this when my friend +Aniket Mazumdar  told me about it. I didn't believe him at first. But after doing some research, it seems that he was right. Shout out to him!

I always found it fascinating to be able to work at a startup company. To be working with the latest and greatest technologies with like minded folks seemed to be the best thing. I joined Iquester Solutions LLP on August 15 2015, two and a half months after I graduated. It turned out to be a great experience, exactly the way I thought it would. I learned a lot and I think everyone looking into a software development careers should join a startup in the beginning of their careers. Reason #1: Startups tend to use the latest and greatest technologies out there. They generally don't have software written using older technologies which they need to support. Reason #2: You get to work at your own time and place, even from home. Being a night owl, it was a big plus for me :D Reason #3: Startups generally have small number of employees. I've been programming since late 2011. Absolutely fell in love with it. As things started to get more and more interesting, one thing was clear, a programmer needs a text editor built for programming. I was introduced to Vim in our college and I hated it! I didn't like the modal mechanism of Vim.  Ubuntu comes pre-installed with gEdit. It's a simple text editor with not many bells and whistle. It has syntax highlighting which helps and programmer a lot. It could've been **the** text editor for me, if only it had auto completion. Alas! S o, the search began!  I didn't want to use Vim, and so turned to next big name in text editing.... Emacs! An alias of complexity ._. GNU Emacs Emacs was a natural choice for me, as I care a lot about the Free Software movement and also because I like Richard Stallman. What would be better than using a piece of software that Mr. Stallman wrote himself! Emacs is a text editor, that does everything a computer can do.... (^_^)...

Anybody Can Code There are tutorials and resources available for learning programming online. One of the most popular ones is W3Schools . But my favorite one is Codecademy . It has many courses including PHP, HTML & CSS, Python, Ruby, JavaScript and jQuery. The courses are very well written and are divided into several section. To move on to a next section you need apply what you learnt in the current section to solve a set of problems. What I really like about Codecademy is the interface. It has a code editor just beside the course text so you can try out what you are learning. And the given problems are helpful when learning a new programming language.
